Other Service Providers Registration Requirements

The registration requirements of Other Insurance Service Providers are detailed in section 150 of the Insurance Act Cap 487 of the Laws of Kenya and include the following:

  1. An application in the prescribed form together with appendices. Click here to download the form.
  2. The applicant should demonstrate that the volume of business that is likely to be obtained and the earning prospects are adequate.
  3. Demonstrate that the business in respect of which application is made will be conducted in accordance with accepted professional standards.
  4. In case of a corporate person, proof that the financial standing of the applicant is sound.
  5. Confirmation by the Principal Officer of the Insurer for whom the applicant proposes to act as an Insurance Service Provider certifying that the applicant has the knowledge and experience necessary to act as a service provider.
  6. Curriculum Vitae of the Principal Officer who shall be partner in case of a partnership or a shareholder in case of a corporate firm.
  7. Registration fee Ksh. 3,000 payable to the Insurance Regulatory authority.
  8. A certificate copy of incorporation if the firm is a limited company or a certificate of registration of business name.
  9. The name of the company should be in order and in line with Section 190 of the the Insurance Act.
  10. The applicant should have a certificate of good conduct.

Specific Requirements for Insurance Service Providers.

Motor Assessors.

  1. The applicant must have passed or been excepted from Certificate Of Proficiency (COP) examination with a pass in Motor Insurance Assessors. The examination is offered by the College of Insurance. 
  2. The applicant should have qualification in engineering.
  3. The Principal Officer should have at least five years experience in motor assessment.

Insurance Investigators

  1. The applicant must have passed or been exempted from Certificate Of Proficiency (COP). The examination is offered by the College of Insurance.
  2. The applicant or Principal officer should have at least two years experience in insurance investigation.

Loss Adjusters

  1. The applicant or principal officer should possess qualification in loss adjustment from a recognized institution.
  2. The applicant or principal officer should have at least five years experience in insurance loss adjustment.

Insurance Surveyors / Risk Managers

  1. The applicant or the principal officer should have a degree or diploma in insurance from a recognized institution of higher learning.
  2. The applicant or principal officer should have professional qualification in risk management or insurance surveying.
  3. The applicant or principal officer should have at least five years experience in insurance surveying or risk management.

Claim Settling Agents

  1. The applicant or principal officer should have a degree or a diploma in insurance from a recognized institution of higher learning.
  2. The applicant or principal officer should have at least five years experience in claims management.
