Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA) conducted a two-days insurance training program in Siaya County from 26th to 27th September 2024.

The training aimed at creating insurance awareness to enable youth to make informed decisions and promoting the uptake of insurance.

The program was officially opened by Mr. Richard Abong’o, Chief Administration Officer in the Office of the Siaya County Secretary, who commended IRA for selecting Siaya County for the training. Mr. Abong’o urged the participants to share information from the training with their peers, emphasizing the role of insurance in protecting their livelihoods.

The participants were educated on the mandate of the Authority and types of insurance products, such as motor vehicle, motorcycle, personal accident, Work Injury Benefits Act (WIBA), medical, and funeral insurance. Practical tips on buying insurance, claims procedures, and complaint-handling mechanisms were also covered.

Policyholders Compensation Fund (PCF) officers made a presentation on PCF’s role in compensating claimants where an insurer is placed under statutory management, or their licenses are revoked by IRA.

Siaya County Secretary, Mr. Joseph Ogutu, in his closing remarks, IRA for its continued commitment to enhancing insurance awareness among the youth and encouraged participants to apply the knowledge gained and embrace insurance products to safeguard their personal and business interests.
