Hon. Abdi is a former Speaker of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) where he was a Member for 10 years (November 2001-2012). As a speaker, he presided over all Assembly meetings and rulings on all decisions that required such edict of the position. As a member, he served in the Accounts and Communication, Trade and Investment committees. Currently, he sits on the Commercial Bank of Africa’s (CBA) Board where he chairs the Board Audit and Risk Committee.

Hon. Abdi holds an MBA from the United States International University (USIU) School of Business. He has expertise in management and disaster risk management/reduction.

In 2011, he was awarded the medal of the Moran of the Golden Heart (MGH for his distinguished service.
